Third in the Fated Loves collection from the USA-Today bestselling author of Long Time Coming and Meant To Be, both 4.5-star Romantic Times Top Picks!

You can't run away from your past. But in some cases, it's worth a try.

Sarah Landers’ parents were killed in a plane crash when she was seventeen; her only sister committed suicide days after. Now, nearly a decade later, Sarah assures everyone she is perfectly fine -- never mind her quiet aloofness, her intensity at work, her seeming neglect of any social life. Only Sarah knows the whole story. Only she is aware of the dark memories that plague her with guilt -- of the fear of discovery that paralyzes her soul.

But when an enigmatic illness forces the normally self-sufficient Sarah to depend on someone -- namely the charming do-gooder of a neighbor, Adam, whom she has been trying desperately to avoid -- her carefully built cocoon begins to crumble. Her family’s home in Alabama, left vacant since the tragedy, still holds the grim evidence of her nightmares and is slated for imminent demolition. With the horror of her past swiftly catching up to her, Sarah’s malady begins to look less like a catastrophe -- and more like her only way out.

But the (rather irreverent) reverend Adam Carmassi refuses to let Sarah go -- not when she is the first woman who has ever truly touched his heart, and not when he is so certain he can help her. With the end of Sarah's life looming in more ways than one, Adam wages a desperate campaign to convince her that no matter what tortured secrets she insists on hiding, her life is worth living -- and their chance of a future together, however slim, is a dream worth fighting for.

Borrowed Time Fated Loves Book 3 edition by Edie Claire Literature Fiction eBooks

Good, but dragged towards the end. The main characters unwillingness to confide in an actual Minister got old and annoying to me. The author tried to extend the conflict (internal) of the main character and the (external) between the two main characters-who were unable to admit they loved and wanted to be together. As a reader the medical condition she also was dealing with would have made me take it more seriously than the author does with this character. You have a heart condition but are too stubborn to get treatment?! I get that she couldn't forget the guilt from something she did as a teenager, but come on! I really did enjoy the aspect of starting over in a brand new city and trying to refresh one's life.

Borrowed Time Fated Loves Book 3 edition by Edie Claire Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I got hooked with her 'Never' series. that is a wonderful cosy mystery series with great characters, funny parts and great plots. This is the third of her romances and I have loved them all. This one is about a woman running from her past. She is a brave yet somehow pitiful person, because she has cut herself off from friends and human relationships. Out of the blue she has to depend on people. Watching her life blossom, yet also fall apart makes for an intensely fascinating story. This is a mystery, a love story and an excellent delve into human psychology. I'm now going to start on her Hawaiian series. This author can write!
This is not my favorite Edie Claire book. It's well written but I just didn't like the story as much as 'Meant To Be' and "Long Time Coming'. My biggest issues with this particular story was the religious aspect and Sarah's transformation at the end. To clarify my feelings about the religious parts of the story they were not intense or too preachy, nor would I classify this as Christian fiction - I just thought that the religious theme was contrived to offset the darker aspects of the story. My issue with Sarah is what really drove me to give this only 3 stars. I was sympathetic to her until the end, then the story just wrapped up too neatly and unbelievably. The epilogue is 'Six Weeks Later', which is definitely not a realistic timeline for a conclusion to Sarah's past and her sudden acceptance of the more social part of her new relationship.

Again, this isn't a bad book. It's just not as interesting to me as the other 2 of Claire's book that I've read.
After reading another Edie Claire book & loving it I decided to read everything of hers I could find. Although not my favorite of her books I still quite enjoyed Borrowed Time. I like that the author is able to tell the story in a manner that keeps me interested without having to use sex and volgarity throughout the entire book. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good harlequin romance, sex & all. It is just refreshing to read a book that still manages to tell a great story, have romance and suspense and still be clean.
The overall story line was okay I just couldn't relate with these characters as well as some of her other books. Still a great read though.
This is the third book in this series I've read. This author does an excellent job of creating characters that are realistic and engaging. I found myself trying to figure out just what had happened in the past to the main character throughout this book. Although the book has a happy ending, I do have to admit I wonder if the police would truly have dropped charges so easily. Obviously I was very involved with the story. Great author! I'll definitely be purchasing more of her books!
I don't like giving a negative review. I have read some of the other books by this author and they were good enough stories. (Alaskan Dawn and Long Time Coming) I just don't like this book.I thought the plot a bit unbelievable. I tried to like the main character but simply could not. I found the end was unrealistic and rushed. I did not want to put the book down midway through ,hoping that it would get better so I struggled on to reach the end but sadly it did not improve.
Truly, I had a hard time sticking with this book at first. I’ve read Ms. Claire’s other single books and I loved them so much, but Sarah is so paranoid and agoraphobic for most of the book so it’s hard to like her. It is until you find out about what surrounds her fear.

The very bright spot in the story is Adam. Adam is her neighbor who lives across the street. He is not only a really happy guy to be around but he has the patience of Job. He is determined to find out what’s what with his new neighbor no matter what.

I do recommend this book but you must be patient.
This could have been an interesting story by starting the plot just at the point where it ends. the characters were sympathetic, but the true romance is about how the straight-laced minister gets his congregation to accept a non-religious woman as the love of his life. The depictions of everyone immediately accepting and being happy about their minister's romance is so completely unrealistic and naive that I wonder if Ms Claire has ever had to struggle with anything. Although the storyline was mostly believable and events followed logically the happy ending felt like Ms Claire had suddenly realized that she had 10 pages to finish the story. I must say, as one who has testified in criminal cases, the concept that there could be a happy ending within 6 weeks of Sarah admitting the truth is completely unrealistic -total fantasy! However, it provided relaxation and distressing, which is why I read these kinds of novels . It does seem as if this is an earlier work, because the others are much better plotted out.
